May Round Table Planning Session with Common Good Solutions
The Disability Partnership held its first in-person meeting in May 2024, bringing together members and key participants to gather insights and strengthen collaboration. This event focused on the Partnership’s four key pillars: education and training, communication, capacity building, and policy development. Using a World Café format, discussion moderators moved between thematic tables to share ideas and identify priorities.
Key discussions highlighted the need for specialized training, such as social media skills and financial support access, alongside operational topics like fundraising and communication improvement. Attendees emphasized the importance of public education campaigns targeting employers, political parties, and educational institutions to promote disability awareness.
Capacity building was also a major theme, with a focus on knowledge sharing across diverse organizations. Members explored how the Partnership could help by sharing success stories, hosting regional meetings, and providing platforms for resource exchange. There was also a call for more collaboration between disability and mental health support communities.
On the policy front, participants advocated for reforms in areas like accessible transportation, residential services, and supported decision-making. They stressed the need for policies that consider individual needs rather than rigid diagnoses.
The meeting was a successful step toward building a unified voice for the Disability Partnership, laying the groundwork for continued networking, collaboration and advocacy throughout the year. Check out the Disability Partnership Committee Presentation for more information.
The next in-person meeting of the Disability Partnership will be held in October of 2024.
